Tide Rolls The Vols
By
It was do or die for Crimson Tide (17-9, 6-6) coming into Saturday's contest against the Tennessee Vols. The Tide had lost two straight since Anthony Grant's suspension of JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell and a loss Saturday would have put Bama squarely on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.
Knowing what was at stake, Bama players stepped up their game and the Tide came away with a 62-50 victory over UT.
"It was great for the team to be locked in to our game plan and complete the task at hand," UA head coach Anthony Grant said. "They put in a lot of hard work this week. We had a great week of preparation."
Bama was led by Trevor Lacey who 18 points and Trevor Releford who had 13 points. The big Swede Carl Engstrom added a career high seven points and seven rebounds.
The story of this game was turnovers. The Tide had a season-high 15 steals while holding the Vols to 34.1 percent shooting. At one point in the second half, the Tide went on a 20-3 run which sealed the ball game after only leading by four at the half.
Bama's next game will be a Thursday night affair against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
