Former Tider Dabo Swinney Team Ends AU Streak

By

Former Crimson Tide wide receiver Dabo Swinney who is now the head football coach of the Clemson Tigers, did something that 17 other teams before him couldn’t do; he ended the Auburn Tigers 17-game winning streak.

Swinney and his Tigers defeated Auburn 38-24 behind almost 700 yards in total offense. Clemson fell behind Auburn early 21-7, but Swinney’s Tigers would score 14 unanswered points to pull to a 21-21 tie at the half, but that wouldn’t last long.

Clemson would score early in the third quarter to take a 28-21 lead and they never looked back. After giving up 21 points to Auburn in the first half, Clemson’s defense would hold Auburn to just three points in the second half.

Clemson’s quarterback Tajh Boyd threw four touchdown passes and threw for almost 400 yards against the Auburn defense. This was Clemson’s first win over Auburn in several tries and most likely, Swinney’s biggest win of his career.

This was also the third defending national champion to come into Death Valley and lose to Clemson. Clemson defeated defending champion Georgia in 1981, Georgia Tech in 1991 and now Auburn in 2011
