Saban.. He Is Worth Every Penny!
By
Not only is it the pride of two states playing for the #1 ranking in the country and a chance to take home a beautiful crystal football trophy, but there's a lot of money on the table for the coaches to take home. For both coach Mack Brown & Nick Saban.
When Nick Saban came to Alabama, he was paid more than any other coach in the history of football at $4 million a year and bristled a lot of feathers. Now he's not even the highest-paid coach in America. That title now goes to his lone remaining adversary, Mack Brown, at $5.1 million a year. In fact, coach Saban only ranks number five in terms of coach's salary now. Here is a list of those ahead of him...
- Mack Brown, Texas $5.1 million*
- Pete Carroll, Southern Cal $4.4 million**
- Bob Stoops, Oklahoma $4.3 million
- Urban Meyer, Florida $4.0 million***
-
Nick Saban, Alabama $3.9 million

Not only are the individual yearly head coaching contracts running high for the top coaches in America, but for the coaches in the BCS championship game there is an added monetary bonus to bringing home the crystal-clear rock showing that they are #1 in the country.
Coach Mack Brown of Texas will make an additional $450,000 if he leads the Longhorns to victory on Thursday night, while Nick Saban will pocket a cool $200,000 on top of another $200,000 he brings in just for making it to the game.
This seems like an enormous amount of money, and it truly is, but man oh man what a ride coach Saban has given this Crimson Tide nation in 2009/2010. I read where the addition of coach Nick Saban has brought in an additional $38 million of additional profit in the last year to the University of Alabama.
Not to mention that coach Saban and his wife Terry, are often giving to charities such as the one they started called Nick's Kids. In the last year they have given over a quarter of the earnings to needy causes. Read more at http://www.nickskidsfund.com.
Looking at it from a different perspective, it's quite a bargain to pay coach Saban for a job well done.

He is worth triple his salary. In just one year the proceeds for Alabama from the football team has been well in excess of his three year contract salary!!!!!!!! We need him to stay here and not be stolen by the big bucks people.

I have been an Alabama fan for 45 years, back during the Namath years. Coach Bryant was a great coach we all know that, but he is gone now and we need to remember him like that, but now there is a new winner in control and coach Saban has done a remarkable job in getting this program back on top where it used to be. Fans need to give him the credit, respect, gratitude and thanks he deserves by putting him right up there along side Bryant,if not more so and talking less of Coach Bryant,he is gone and won’t be back. Let’s all appreciate coach Saban more and hope he stays around for a long time!

To B. Jones….I totally agree. Things were a lot different when Coach Bryant coached. He could give scholarships to many more players than allowed today. His team had three or more squads that were equal to the starting team. He could substitute with no loss in talent. I love and will always remember Coach Bryant but todays rules are much different when he coached. Let’s support Coach Saban and make sure he has a spot in Alabama tradition.
