Men’s Basketball: The Tide Ropes Oklahoma State
By
Well, it’s wasn’t the BCS Championship, but Alabama (9-3) did defeat Oklahoma State (6-5), 69-52.
The Tide finally got the offense rolling last night making five three-pointers in the first half and for the game making 7-15 three-pointers.
The early three’s put Bama ahead by as many as 19 points in the first half.
Trevor Releford led the Tide with 19 points, 15 coming in the second half and Tony Mitchell added 16 points. Both had to come up big last night because JaMychal Green sat out last night’s game with a lingering shoulder injury.
In his first start, freshman Trevor Lacy knocked down a few three’s also and ended the game with 12 points.
“It’s a huge victory in a lot of ways,” Alabama coach Anthony Grant said. “We needed a win. You want to go into the holiday break on a positive note.
“The win is big because we had guys step up that needed to step up. It’s big, because we were able to do it without JaMychal, our best player.
“In a lot of different ways, this is a great confidence builder for our team.”
The Tide next faces Jacksonville December 29.
