Bama Players in the NFL : Jones Has Big Game Against Cam & The Panthers
By
Former Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones has had an injury plague season, but when he is healthy he has shown why he is one of the best young players in the league.
Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons were down 23-7 to Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers, but the Falcons behind Jones and quarterback Matt Ryan rallied to win 31-23.
“He just kept his poise," Jones said of Ryan. "He kept it positive on the sideline, encouraged us to keep it going, keep it going. Eventually, we did, and we came up with a W at the end.”
Jones would have touchdown receptions of 17 and 75 yards. Ryan praised the rookie for his work ethic and his play.
“He's had some plays I'm sure he'd like to have done better, but that's him maturing, and understanding what the NFL is all about,” Ryan said. “Sometimes, you're not going to make the plays you want to make, but it's all about how you respond to those situations. He did a great job for us today, but it doesn't surprise me, because that's been his deal the whole year.”
“He's worked real hard, and has been into it, and has done everything you could ask for from a rookie.”
Jones also redeemed himself after dropping a sure TD pass last week in a Falcons loss. Some people still question the Falcons for giving up so much for Jones, but his play during the season shows why he is going to be one of the best in the game.
