Tuscaloosa Native Playing For Miss State Wants to Prove Tide Wrong
By
Brandon Wilson, who is from Tuscaloosa, has something to prove on Saturday night.
The Mississippi State linebacker lived within shouting distance of Bryant-Denny Stadium, but unlike most kids growing up in the Tuscaloosa area, he wasn’t an Alabama fan.
“I always get that question,” Wilson told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
“But I was never a 'Roll Tide, University of Alabama' kind of guy.”
Maybe that’s because State’s second leading tackler wasn’t recruited by Bama. He was recruited by Stillman College which is also in Tuscaloosa, UAB and Troy.
When Wilson got a chance to walk-on at Mississippi State, he jumped at the opportunity. He wants to prove to Alabama and head coach Nick Saban that they passed up on a good player.
“Knowing you played high school ball in Tuscaloosa," said Wilson, "and didn't get any looks - I'm definitely going out there and playing with a chip on my shoulder.”
We’ll see Saturday if Wilson is able to bet his revenge on the Tide.
