Namath Calls out Jets and Rex Ryan

By

You can never accuse former Alabama and New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath of biting his tongue. After the Jets loss Sunday, Namath said in a radio interview that he blamed Jets coach Rex Ryan and his cocky attitude in the Jets failure.

“It’s rather alarming,” Namath said on the Michael Kay Show. “It starts at the top. Coach Rex Ryan, he’s been doing a great job, getting us to two conference championship games, but there’s one thing about the athlete: You keep telling him how good he is, he’s going to start believing it to the point that he may not be preparing quite the way he should. He may be losing some respect for the other team.”

What Namath is basically saying is that the Jets have delusions of grandeur. They have this cocky attitude, but in actuality, they haven’t accomplished anything.

“I think these guys might be believing that they’re better than they are,” Namath said.

When asked about Namath’s comments, Ryan basically blew them off.

“I'm not going to change who I am because Joe Namath said something,” Ryan said.

Maybe Rex Ryan SHOULD listen; Namath is the only quarterback to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl title and he knows what he is talking about.

The Jets get all this hype because of Rex Ryan, but under Ryan, they haven’t won their own division, they haven’t won an AFC title and they haven’t been to a Super Bowl in 42 years.

Ryan would be wise to hush and pay attention to what Namath is saying before the Jets have another unfulfilled season.
